Aili Ikonen a suivi des études de folk et jazz à l’Académie Sibelius d’Helsinki, d’où elle reçut son diplôme Bachelors en 2008 avec les professeurs Aija Puurtinen, Maija Hapuoja et Ritva Eerola. Elle a paru dans plusieurs Festivals de jazz renommés en Finlande et ailleurs, et a été soliste avec la UMO Orchestre de Jazz, parmi autres. Elle a reçu le premier prix à la compétition inter Scandinave Young Nordic Jazz Comets en 2004. Outre son travail de chant et composition avec Kvalda, Aili parait avec plusieurs autres groupes tells que l’Ensemble Korpi, Hereä, et Piiskaajat (lauréat de la Compétition 2007 de la Folk Musique Finlandaise). En Janvier 2009 elle a paru dans le rôle de Gill Bates dans un “opéra virtuel” contemporain, Lovers of Mankind, une oeuvre qui joint des éléments de jazz avec de la musique classique moderne.

Aili Ikonen studied folk and jazz music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in 2008. Her most significant teachers have been Aija Puurtinen, Maija Hapuoja, and Ritva Eerola. She has performed at several renowned jazz festivals both in Finland and abroad, was featured as a soloist with the UMO Jazz Orchestra, and won first prize at the inter-Scandinavian Young Nordic Jazz Comets contest in 2004. In addition to singing and composing with Kvalda, Aili is working with several other bands such as Korpi Ensemble, Hereä, and Piiskaajat, which was the winner of the 2007 Finnish Folk Music Contest. In January 2009 she performed the role of Gill Bates in a contemporary “virtual opera,” Lovers of Mankind, which combined jazz elements with modern classical music. |
