Sarah Sanders

 

Comédienne - chanteuse - metteur en scène, Sarah Sanders a été Lauréate du « Conservatoire National d’Art Dramatique » en comédie modern et tragédie classique. Ses débuts de comédienne et chanteuse dans la Compagnie Jean-Louis Barrault l’emmène en tournée jusqu’à New-York City Center où elle joua les classiques et chanta les opérettes d’Offenbach. Elle s’y maria et s’établit à New York pendant 7 ans, chantant et jouant tour à tour dans des spectacles et commençant sa carrière de metteur en scène aussi bien de pièces de théâtre que d’opéra.

Après avoir étudié le chant à Paris avec Germaine Lubin, elle continua à approfondir sa technique à New York auprès de différents professeurs, toujours plus curieuse de comprendre les multiples possibilités d’utilisation de la voix. Après son divorce, elle revint à Paris où elle reprit sa carrière de comédienne apparaissant dans de nombreuses pièces et spectacles musicaux, et jouant dans un grand nombre de téléfilms et de séries télévisées.

En 1981, elle fonda avec Jean-François Prévand le « Théâtre atelier Paris-Sud » dans lequel ils écrivirent, mirent en scène et jouèrent un grand nombre de spectacles.

Dans les 20 dernières années, Sarah Sanders s’est résolument tournée vers la pédagogie désirant partager avec les plus jeunes son expérience aussi bien en théâtre qu’en chant. Depuis 1992, elle se consacre à l'enseignement du chant et tout particulièrement au chant dans les musiques amplifiées qui est devenu son principal lieu de recherche et d'activités.

Au "Studio des Variétés", elle collabore avec Claudia Phillips à la formation des « professeurs de chant dans les musiques actuelles » où elle enseigne les techniques vocales. En parallèle pendant 3 ans, elle a été le coach vocal de l’émission de télévision « La Nouvelle Star ».

Au cours des 15 dernières années, Sarah Sanders a travaillé avec de nombreux artistes qui évoluent dans des catégories musicales très différentes : pop, rock, reggae, rap, comédie musicale, etc. ; parmi lesquels : Étienne Daho, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jeanne Moreau, Tchéky Karyo, Carla Bruni, Enzo Enzo, Fanny Ardant, Isabelle Boulay, Jennyfer, Faudel, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Anggun, Emmanuel Moire, Christophe Willem, Christophe Maé, Lofofora, Treponem Pal, Negg Marron, etc.

Depuis la création de « l’Institut Supérieur des Arts de la Scène », une école professionnelle multi disciplines (chant, danse, théâtre) dirigée par le chorégraphe et professeur de danse de modern jazz Rick Odums, elle dirige le département chant.

Equally trained in theater and music, Sarah Sanders, (actress, director, author and singer), graduated from the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Paris. She began her career as an actress and singer with the Jean-Louis Barrault National Theater, which took her on tour to the New York City Center, where she performed in classical tragedies and sang in operettas by Offenbach. There she met her husband and settled in New York for seven years, working as an actress and singer and beginning her career as a director with companies such as the New York Opera Association, the Memphis Front Street Theater and the Philadelphia Living Arts. After training her singing voice with Germaine Lubin in Paris, she went on studying with several teachers in New York, always eager to better understand the many different ways to use one’s voice. After her divorce, she resumed her life and career in Paris, where she appeared in a good number of television productions and stage plays, as well as singing in musicals by Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weill, as well as Michel Legrand’s “Monte Cristo”. For the past twenty years, Sarah Sanders has dedicated most of her time to teaching both acting and singing, concentrating on singing since 1992. Although she is classically trained, she has become more and more involved in teaching non classical singing, which includes a wide range of styles and languages (French, English, Spanish, Italian…). Her passion is showing the links between all styles and respecting the differences.

She has been, along with Claudia Phillips, one of the principal teachers of an annual vocal pedagogy curriculum at the Studio des Variétés in Paris for the past nine years. Since 2004 she has also been head of the vocal department at the Institut Supérieur des Arts de la Scène, a pluridisciplinary school (singing, acting, and dance), directed by the American modern jazz choreographer Rick Odums.

From 2004 to 2006 she was the vocal coach for the television show “Nouvelle Star” (the French version of American Idol). She has coached a great number of well known singers and actors (Etienne Daho, Anggun, Christophe Willem, Christophe Maé, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Carla Bruni, Tchéky Karyo, Fanny Ardant, Jeanne Moreau…), as well as reggae singers like Tiken Jah Fakoly and a number of hard rock singers (Lofofora, Treponem Pal…).
